We left Istebna from Poznan at dawn, knowing that we might encounter a surprise. After all, 20-year-old Zeti, who had to carry two adult peasants and recording equipment, faced quite a challenge, seemingly 350 km, but under what conditions! Rain, thunderstorms, sunshine, I was just waiting for a hailstorm. On the trip, our operator fell endlessly in love with the convertible. This was our first material outside of CABRIO POLAND to be done together in this unique place.
While Istebna itself remains phenomenal and well-known for its tourist qualities, as it is, after all, the site of the Memorial Chamber of our great Himalayan, Jerzy Kukuczka, the Villa Zwolakówka itself was a mystery to us. We came at the invitation of the Zwolak family.
Maciek Zwolak – a car lover since forever, and for as long as he can remember a convertible lover and owner of a BMW Z3 with a wonderful musical career. He enjoys history especially concerning World War II, and loves Kasia and her cooking.
Kasia Zwolak – whatever she touches, she does it with joy on her face and it’s hard not to smile with her. He cooks brilliantly, and when he calls to the table, it is not worth delaying, because you may bitterly regret it. He loves Maciek and, more recently, painting.
Even at the very entrance, the beautiful old buildings gave the feeling as if we were returning to a family home. The curtains and creaking wonderfully floor even invited you in. After logging in atmospheric double rooms with showers, we felt hunger getting to us. And here is a note of caution, if you arrive at their place, call for food from the threshold, but call out “TAGINE “. As I was writing this, I had to call Maciek once again to make sure of the name of what we encountered there.
Kaśka prepares unearthly delicious Moroccan food, which stays in the memory for a long time… After that it was only “worse hahaha” yeast cakes, asparagus, ham etc. By the way, they have some kind of paradise there, the vast majority of these products come from organic farms, own production, etc. These wonders are not made on discount rarities but on real products! Wow!
But you should not only sleep and eat in Zwolakówka, conversations with the owners make you start to regret that you came only for the weekend (*that was the case with us). Maciek and Kaśka drove us along trails in the mountains, where everything is absorbed more strongly, especially with an open roof. The steep, winding roads, climbs and views from the top were dizzying, and the air was so clear it was breathtaking. Amazing.
When hosting the Zwolaks, get ready for a dog-eat-dog break full of tasty food, smells and greenery. We want to return there, not just once and not just for a while.
PS. In Kaśka’s closet you will not find a place for handbags from Louis Vuitton, she made it available to Maciek, old army boots stand in it and soldier coats hang, just a little swap! They respect their passions and for that we like them very much!
Some specifics:
- as you drive, use Google Maps, some navigators lead you into the raspberry;
- place good for both weekend and longer stay, definitely for any
pocket; - If your convertible fails on the road, Maciek will help;
- There is room for your convertible, even a lowered one will enter without trouble,
- There is a dog on the property, it mainly takes care of its own butt, it is not one of the watchdogs;
- kitchen phenomenal;
- Rooms clean and charming;
- Shower – hmm…for women and guys without excess weight
To summarize:
A place with a family atmosphere, run by passionate people who love convertibles! I nail myself on four paws.
