BMW has unveiled a concept model of the luxury Targa, the Skytop Concept, which harks back to the brand’s historic models such as the BMW Z8 and BMW 503. Based on Series 8 technology, Skytop is likely to be in limited production.

The Skytop Concept combines elements of classic BMW models with modern touches. The body, five meters long and 2.20 meters wide, presents a removable targa-type roof. The chrome paint, dubbed “muted silver” by BMW, gives the car an elegant look.

Interior

The Skytop Concept’s interior is finished in dark reddish-brown leather, perforated on the sport seats and door panels. The center console includes a crystal shift lever, engine start button and other buttons. The center touchscreen of the infotainment system is from the 8 Series. Transparent plates with BMW lettering are built into the headrests.

Under the hood of the Skytop Concept is the most powerful V8 engine in BMW’s lineup. It is most likely the 4.4-liter biturbo V8 from the M8, generating 625 hp and 750 Nm of torque for incredible performance.

Limited Production

BMW plans to launch the Skytop Concept in a limited series of 20 to 25 units by 2026. Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW’s head of styling, suggested that limited production is possible, making the model extremely exclusive.
