GENERAL INFORMATION
We can go to Romania for a vacation to the Black Sea or the Carpathian Mountains to go skiing. Regardless of the purpose of your trip, it’s a good idea to know the rules of the road there to avoid fines and unnecessary stress.
The document for entry into Romania is an identity card valid, at least 6 months, or a passport valid, at least 3 months.

REGULATIONS AND PENALTIES
- To drive a car you need to be at least 18 years old
- It is forbidden to drive a vehicle after consuming alcohol, and there are heavy fines and even retention of the driver’s license for this offense
- Police punish traffic violations very strictly, imposed fines drivers must settle on the spot
- The use of dipped headlights outside built-up areas is mandatory 24 hours a day
- Motorists should be careful at night on roads where road works are being carried out, as they are often poorly marked, and it is also possible to see unlit vehicles parked on the road
- towing by private cars is prohibited

ROAD TOLLS
Expressways and highways in Romania are toll roads. The toll on expressways is paid in the form of a vignette, which can be purchased at a gas station or post office. The price of the vignette depends on the vehicle category and validity period. There is a hefty fine for not having a vignette. In addition, tolls are charged for crossing the Danube Bridge.
