Difficult times have come, but we are finally able to enjoy the beautiful weather and, as is always the case in our roofless houses every now and then, “another unique headliner.”

We are beginning the vacation season, and therefore planning trips – those closer and those further away. And here the questions arise – what to take with you to eat, what drinks to choose? Here are some tips.

First, the drinks:

Always, but always no matter how long a trip we are preparing for, there should be a water bottle in the car. Ordinary mineral water will come in handy not only in the summer when it is hot, but also throughout the year. A bottle of water will replenish our lost micronutrients in the body and quench our thirst. A good idea for the “forgetful” is to buy water in small containers and leave it in your “beloved” car (I know, I know, not very eco-friendly, but extremely practical). Of course, I’m not talking about water in glass bottles – such will not work in hot weather, it will quickly heat up and can lead to disaster left alone in the sun in a closed car. Of course, I urge everyone to travel with their own bidons or thermoses – but this idea is already for the more organized and seasoned travelers. In addition to water, tea can also be a good idea (I personally take it on every trip) . Not everyone probably knows, but hot tea is great for hot days. This is because the receptors on our tongues detecting a higher temperature inform our body that it had better start sweating to get rid of unnecessary heat? Those who have been to countries such as Egypt, Tunisia or Morocco have certainly encountered the treat of hot tea with mint.

Of course, don’t forget to take in fluids throughout the day – drink in small sips so that the body is hydrated all the time – as I wrote in previous columns, no less than 1.5 to 2 liters of water a day, and in summer because we sweat and evaporate, a liter more. It’s also a great idea to take along drinks that have electrolytes – the minerals our bodies need to function properly. During hot weather, they guarantee well-being, reduce fatigue and improve concentration. You can take ready-made electrolyte capsules with you, or if you feel like hydrating naturally, prepare them yourself. Add half a squeezed lemon, a pinch of salt and about 3 teaspoons of honey to 500 ml of water. Ready?

Second, food:

As with water, so with snacks – we should always have them on hand. We never know how long we will be on the road, what conditions we will encounter on the road (e.g. traffic jams, road works) and whether we will have the opportunity to stop for a break. Personally, I always have a small snack in the car, such as nuts or the so-called “student” mix – with dried fruits. Nutritious grain bars (natural with honey) are also a proven idea – they won’t melt like others such as chocolate bars. Rice wafers or matzo are also worthy of recommendation. What’s in it for everyone. We should also remember that such items have a long shelf life and will allow us to “make it” to a decent full meal. And let’s not forget fruit – but these only work well for short distances.

So remember – it’s always a good idea to be prepared for the unknown, and in the car, in addition to food and drinks, it’s also a good idea to have wet paper or tissues, a flashlight or a warm blanket – you never know what will happen on the road and where you will spend the next exciting power adventure with your Cabrio.

See you on the road.
